Who we are

Futuraskolan International Brunbärsvägen is an international pre-school which follows the Swedish national curriculum in combination with International Curriculum Association’s Early Years Curriculum (IEYC). We have 120 children between the ages of 1 and 6 years. Departments are created based on the ages of the children and vary in size from 15 to 21 children per group. Each department is lead by a team of teachers. We focus on providing our children with a voice, engaging activities and recognizing their day to day accomplishments. Most importantly, we want our children to have fun!

Our Location

We are located in Ruddammen, Östermalm. Outside our school is a large playing field and playground area and we are only a short walk away from the forest Lill-Jansskogen. By utilizing the city transportation we have a plethora of Stockholm’s museums, theatres and parks at our fingertips.

What we offer and how we work

We work thematically to stimulate learning in the areas of language, mathematics and natural sciences.

Each department has an age specific learning environment which is designed to encourage and stimulate the development of the children. We also have common areas such as our gym, art room, dramatic play area, math and construction areas, natural science area and libraries where the children can interact with other groups of varying ages.

English is our medium of communication but we also provide the children with opportunities to develop their Swedish language and mother tongue through the use of literature, songs, events and everyday interaction.

Along with indoor daily activities, the children are provided outdoor play two hours daily.

Our partnership with the home is developed in many ways, one of which is through the Parent Support Association. This is a forum for open dialog with our parents where we can exchange ideas and encourage parent involvement.

Today, it was the turn of four 8th graders from Futuraskolan International to help us sort through the clothes collected for our flea market! 🧡👕 Together with six of our preschoolers, they took their mission very seriously, doing their best to work as a team and select the best-quality clothes to be sent to children supported by Elix in Greece as part of our GCP initiative. 🇬🇷🤝

Activities like these are a wonderful way to help children develop empathy, solidarity, and a sense of responsibility, while learning the importance of helping others in need. ❤️

🌍💙 Celebrating UN Day at our preschool! 💙🌍
Today, our whole preschool gathered in the Stage to celebrate UN Day! Each department was proudly called to the stage to show their beautiful traditional costumes and flags, representing the many cultures and countries that make our community so special.
It was a joyful celebration of diversity, inclusion, and belonging. We celebrated the things that make us unique while also discovering how much we have in common. 🌎✨
Because even though we may speak different languages, wear different clothes, and come from different parts of the world, we all share the same hopes for kindness, friendship, and a better future. ❤️
Today was a beautiful reminder that our differences bring colour to our world, and our similarities bring us together. Together, we are one global community! 🤝🌈
Some departments also brought technology into our celebration by using a green screen! Each child chose a background representing their country, and we took pictures in front of it. The results are amazing! 📸✨ Through this activity, we combined creativity, cultural awareness, and digital technology while learning more about the world we live in.

Today Brunbärsvägen was filled with Halloween magic, with beautiful decorations everywhere, especially the ones lovingly created by our amazing children! 🕸️🦇✨

The children had so much fun rotating through our Halloween stations, enjoying face painting, arts and crafts, the Halloween disco, nail polish, tattoos and stickers, Halloween bingo, spooky stories, and lots of dancing! 🎨💅🕺🎶

And, of course, seeing all the children dressed up in their fantastic costumes was the cherry on top! 🧙‍♀️🧛‍♂️🎃

🌍💚 Global Citizen Project: Sharing, Caring and Making a Difference
Today, we had our first GCP collaboration with learners from between our preschool Brunbärsvagen and Futuraskolan Bilingual! Following Friday’s flea market, we came together to give a second life to the clothes that were left over by donating them to the refugee families in Greece that we support.
Together, nine of our children and the visiting learners carefully sorted through the boxes, selecting clothes in the best condition. Before starting, we discussed generosity, gratitude, empathy, and how sharing what we have can make a difference in someone else’s life. 👕❤️
We are proud to have collected four full bags of clothes! Our next step is to weigh them and organise the donation.
Through this collaboration, children develop empathy, social responsibility, and an understanding of sustainability, while learning that even small actions can have a meaningful impact on others. 🌱🤝

Last week at Brunbärsvägen, we celebrated Stop! Min kropp! week, our departments explored emotions, body autonomy and personal boundaries through playful, meaningful activities. 💛

Some departments identified different emotions using colourful faces, practised facial expressions in the mirror and learned emotion words in both Swedish and English. Through the Babblarna story Varför då?, the children explored why the characters felt different emotions and what helped them feel happy again. They also created emotion puppets and used them to tell their own stories about feelings. 🎭

Sime explored the importance of saying “no” and respecting personal boundaries through the story Lilla nej-boken. Together, we discussed how everyone has the right to decide what happens to their own body, including whether they want to give or receive a hug. Another department traced and cut out their hands while discussing situations where it is important to say, “Stop! Min kropp!” ✋

🌱 Our learning goals were to help children:

Recognise and express different emotions.
Develop the language to communicate their feelings and wishes.
Understand that their bodies belong to them and that they can say no.
Recognise and respect their own and others’ personal boundaries.

Building bridges between generations ❤️

Futuraskolan Brumbärsvägen preschool had their first collaboration, in this preschool year, with Kattrumpstunen, the elderly care home located near our preschool. 🏡

As part of this collaboration, a group of children had the opportunity to visit the residents, spend time together and enjoy a little bingo. There were smiles, laughter and wonderful moments shared across generations. 🎲🥰

But this experience was about so much more than playing games. It was an opportunity for our children to develop empathy, kindness and respect for older generations, while discovering how even the smallest gestures can make a big difference in someone’s day.

Sometimes, a little time, a shared game or simply being together is enough to bring happiness and create meaningful connections. ❤️

Through these encounters, we hope to nurture compassionate young individuals who understand the importance of caring for others and contributing to a more inclusive and caring community.
