We’re thrilled to announce that Futuraskolan International Lidingö is to compete in Seventh edition of the John Cabot University Model United Nations Conference (JCU MUN), which will take place on January 26, 27, and 28, 2017, in Rome, Italy.
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extracurricular activity in which students typically role play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a high school or college MUN club. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award certificate; the Best Delegate in each committee, however, receives a gavel. Thousands of middle school, high school, and college students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
For the first time in its history JCU MUN Society offers prospective students two committees. You can choose between engaging in a debate on Stopping Climate Change of the special committee on a reproduction of the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC chaired by Giuseppe Spatafora, the Society’s President, or contributing to a discussion on Combating Terrorism of the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) chaired by Laura Di Girolamo, our Vice President. Together with our advisor, Associate Dean Pamela Harris (J.D. Harvard University), we have carefully selected these particular topics for their high relevance and wide international interest; the students will get a chance to familiarize themselves with the chosen issue with the help of the detailed study guides prepared by the JCU MUN Society. Not only will delegates develop and expand their knowledge on the ongoing topics and the UN structure, but they also will significantly enhance their public speaking, academic writing style and formatting, leadership, team working, and negotiating skills, which are so essential in our world nowadays. Needless to mention that such an extracurricular activity as MUN is highly valued by universities’ Admissions
I would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Helene Gordin of Gordin Travel. Not only has she been gracious enough to entrust the school with her amazing 8th grade daughter but she arranged the itinerary of this trip at a cost 40% cheaper than any me or Gael could find. Please know that Helene was very professional and versatile in accommodating our booking needs. I was so impressed with the price she received for this trip that I have started to use her services to arrange personal travel plans for me and my family.
I encourage you to do the same. Both financially and emotionally, she is the perfect person to entrust with your families or companies travel plans.
